ACF 2970 Covered Hopper, CB&Q, is a detailed two-bay Centerflow model that recreates mid-century bulk freight equipment. The prototype entered service in the 1950s to haul dense loads like cement and sand, and the Centerflow design of the 1960s added a rounded body for greater strength and easier gravity unloading, with a capacity of 2,970 cubic feet. This model is well suited for model railroad layouts seeking authentic period-accurate rolling stock.
On the model, you’ll find features such as photo-etched roof walks, separately applied wire grab irons and brake piping, and a meticulously detailed underbody. It uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers and is weighted for reliable running. The injection-molded body is painted and printed for realistic decoration, and the design accommodates standard layouts with a minimum radius of 11 inches.
